Introduction

Hello my name is Olivia Thompson. I am pre-nursing student at the University of Southern Indiana. I will be applying to the college of nursing in the fall. I am taking classes to receive a minor in both nutrition and health administration. I grew up on a small farm in Bedford Indiana which is about 40 minutes south of Bloomington Indiana. I am the youngest daughter of Tim and Alice Thompson and sister to Tyler Thompson. Growing up I had many different pets ranging from the usual dog and cat to rabbits and horses. I showed rabbits and horses at my local county fair as well as open shows all throughout my childhood. Animals made a huge impact on my life; they made me the responsible person that I am today. My parents only agreed to buy me a horse if I proved that I could take care of them. This was actually proven the first year I had my barrel horse. He got cut by some wires in the lot which cut his leg to the bone. I had to get up every morning at five in the morning to wash and dress the wound so he wouldn’t become lame. He and I had such a connection that my parents still have him on our family farm. During high school I balanced my responsibilities of having animals as well as having an active social life. I loved going to games on Friday nights and participated on the fast pitch softball team in the spring.

Growing up so close to Bloomington and Indiana University resulted in me becoming a huge fan of IU basketball. I would skip one high school football game every fall to watch March madness. Many of my friends went to IU as their college of choice. I was different and wanted to go somewhere to meet new people and that would challenge me. I went to Butler University for my first two years of college. I became a huge fan of their sports programs including baseball, softball, and of course basketball. When I changed my major to nursing I transferred to USI because Butler did not have a program and I knew USI was a fairly good school for nursing.

Some writing skills I have trouble with include grammar errors. I tend to have run-on sentences and sometimes have fragments. These are the areas I hope to improve throughout this course.
I love to read when I have the time. Like most girls my favorite author is Nicholas Sparks. He writes the perfect stories of relationships. I find myself comparing the people I date to those of his characters. I as well as many other of his fans hope to find my own Noah, Will, Garret, or Landon.

I look forward to the course and hope that it improves my writing abilities.
